Is this an old hymn or something? Sure reads like one…
"In Christ Alone"
Newsboys, Adoration: The Worship Album
In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand
In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
‘Till on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live
There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost it’s grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Brought with the precious blood of Christ
No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
‘Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand

So, are you saying you like it or not? This is one we have done at church quite often over the past 2 years and I really like it because it is one of the contemporary worship songs with a hymn-like quality that appeals to some of our older members. So, it fits into blended worship planning really well. Love the lyrics of the last half of the last verse.
Oh…I totally like it. I’d love to hear it in one of the worship services I attend.
After re-reading my intro, I could see how it might be interpreted that I was poking fun at the song and hymns. But, the truth is that I’d likr to see more modern worship songs with the meat this one offers.
My school (Bethany College of Missions) took this song and ran with it as well as congregations all over the nation. I agree re: the power-packed lyrics. I am not sure, but my gut says that it is a tune from the olden days, though I haven’t found the actual material as of yet (being that I’m in a foreign country I don’t have my normal shelf of resources available). Perhaps it was revamped somehow, too, which would explain the familiar ring – at least for me.
Mandi gave me your link @ my request, she said you sometimes have interesting things to say. lol. In different words. Looking forward to hearng more as time goes on. So far I haven’t read a lot, but I’ve thought, “Good grief, got an opinion?” Which you do, and which is fine with me.
(I’m in my “Arnold” imitation now – )
I’ll be back…
