This in an incomplete blog I started last night and didn’t finish. But I’ll throw the basics out there in case some of you are hungry for some weekend reading / food for thought…
The Wicca belief system grew nearly 1700 percent in the US between 1990 and 2001 according to numbers from the American Religious Identification Survey and reported by the Detroit News. The number of adherents is doubling about every 30 months.
A subhead on a ReligiousTolerance.org page reads: “Christianity Sinking; ‘none of the above’ rising.” Read further and you’ll encounter all sorts of dismal stats about the Christian lethargy–but spiritual hunger–of our country.
And then there’s good ol George Barna, who has written the book Revolution, founded upon the decades of spiritual temperature-taking he’s done in America. Check out some very interesting information on the status of the church among us “Revolutionaries” at Barna.org, more specifically here: http://www.barna.org/FlexPage.aspx?Page=BarnaUpdate&BarnaUpdateID=201
Ok…that’s it for now. More to come later.
One reply on ““Wicca” or “The hunger for more””
Great stuff bro! Wow! That Barna article nails it and summarizes what I hope to somehow change about church. I posted on my blog a little bit about my frustrations; then happened to read you blog. There’s some overlap and I’m looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts.
