Restorer

Stirring discussion at church tonight–and conversation following–leaves me excited to continue the pursuit of what the Lord would have me do as part of the Albion community. Thanks, Cini, for the community development articles you sent.

In at least two of the articles I’ve skimmed, the below quote was mentioned. Leave it to the founder of Taoism, Lao Tsu, to articulate this.

Go to the People;
Live among them;
Love them;
Learn from them;
Start from where they are;
Work with them;
Build on what they have.

But of the best leaders,
When the task is accomplished,
The work completed,
The people all remark:
“We have done it ourselves”

I want to hear about what you all discussed at church and how that has effected your feelings on the direction the Lord is leading you. Great quote, by the way. I have one book that we read for the community development class called How People Get Power by Si Kahn. He’s a Jewish guy who wrote the book based on his experience with community development in the south. It’s good stuff. I didn’t have it in my car this weekend, or I would have passed it on to you, although I know you already have a ton to read, so perhaps it’s just as well for now that I didn’t add a book to your reading list. This quote is reflective of a big premise of Si Kahn’s book. Would love to hear your thoughts and know how I can pray more specifically for the Lord’s leading.

Both Tuesday and last night had really great free-for-all discussion, Tuesday focusing on what the congregation felt was important in a church (unity, love, outreach…) and last night about what we’ve learned from God in the past year.

In conversation the service on Tuesday, I had a great discussion with another guy and told him about what you and I had talked about regarding that building I’m interested in in Albion and what we could do with it.

So, it was mostly more confirmation. And just so you know, you agreeing with the Internet Cafe concept was really big in putting wind back in the sails. So, thanks for that, Cini. Be praying that I have wisdom with how to move forward pursuing the building and have favor with the community and whoever I and the church needs favor with.
